MIIT Recognizes DODGEN Melt Crystallization for 72% Energy Cut in Battery Solvent Production

The project replaced conventional distillation with continuous melt crystallization for purifying ethylene carbonate, a key solvent in lithium-ion battery electrolytes. The retrofit cut unit energy consumption by 72%, from 120.9 to 33.3 kg of standard coal per tonne, across a 90,000-tonne-per-year production line. Verified outcomes include 7,884 tonnes of standard coal saved and roughly 21,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions avoided annually. The retrofit was completed in five months at the Shida Shenghua facility in Quanzhou. DODGEN's technology uses multi-stage precision temperature control to within 0.5 degrees Celsius, which the company says improves purification efficiency by about 40%. The case demonstrates that battery-material producers can meaningfully cut energy use and carbon emissions without sacrificing product quality. This project supports the localization of high-purity electrolyte materials for China's growing battery supply chain. DODGEN's melt crystallization technology is designed for heat-sensitive chemicals where distillation is energy-intensive and risks thermal degradation. The company expects the approach to be applicable across fine chemicals and specialty chemical production.
