Midsummer and Chulalongkorn University unveil carbon-negative solar bus shelter in Bangkok

The shelter uses Midsummer's lightweight thin-film CIGS solar panels to power lighting, fans, mobile charging, and digital traffic displays. Its roof is built from engineered wood, which acts as a long-term carbon sink, making the structure net-negative on carbon. The project is part of a broader MoU exploring building-integrated photovoltaics, low-carbon construction, and tropical climate architecture. It serves as a real-world testbed for how small-scale distributed solar can be integrated into public infrastructure in dense urban environments. The collaboration also includes academic research and pilot projects aimed at Thailand's decarbonization goals.
