Alt Carbon spreads basalt rock dust on agricultural fields in Darjeeling's tea estates and rice paddies. The rock reacts with rainwater to form stable bicarbonate ions, storing carbon for over 10,000 years. The company also reports agricultural co-benefits like improved soil health and crop yields. This purchase comes after reports that Microsoft paused carbon removal buying, though the company says it may adjust pace rather than stop entirely.
