Microsoft has partnered with BioCirc to purchase 650,000 carbon removal units over seven years. The project utilizes bioenergy carbon capture and storage (BECCS) across five biogas plants in Denmark to capture biogenic CO2 and store it permanently in the North Sea via Project Greensand. Starting in late 2026, BioCirc will deliver 100,000 units annually through 2032. The agreement focuses on high-durability removal, accounting for lifecycle emissions from biomass sourcing and transport to ensure net carbon negativity.
