Microsoft has signed a seven year agreement with BioCirc to purchase up to 650,000 tons of carbon removal. The deal utilizes BioCirc's bioenergy carbon capture and storage (BECCS) plants in Denmark to capture biogenic CO2 and store it in geologic formations under the North Sea. This purchase follows reports that Microsoft had paused its carbon removal procurement. As one of the largest buyers in the durable CDR market, the move signals a continuation of Microsoft's climate strategy despite potential adjustments to the volume and pace of its buying.
