Microsoft has signed a new deal to purchase 650,000 metric tons of carbon removal credits from BioCirc. This move comes after reports suggested the company was pausing its carbon removal program, which is critical since Microsoft currently dominates a huge portion of the CDR market. The deal uses biogas projects to capture CO2 and store it offshore. However, the company faces a growing gap between its carbon negative goals and the massive emissions from new natural gas plants needed to power its AI data centers.
