Microsoft signed two deals to advance its climate goals: a 260 MW solar portfolio with MN8 Energy and a carbon removal agreement with Alt Carbon. The solar projects, Long Point Solar in Texas and American Beech Solar in North Carolina, are now operational and supply power to ERCOT and PJM markets. Microsoft aims to be carbon negative by 2030 and remove all historical emissions by 2050. The carbon removal deal complements the renewable expansion as Microsoft faces rising energy demand from AI and cloud data centers. The company already holds 40 GW of contracted clean energy across 26 countries. These moves show how large tech firms are combining direct emissions cuts with offsets to address both operational and supply chain emissions.
