Skegness-based Micronclean has cut its carbon emissions by 31% since 2021. The company achieved this through significant investments in green technology and the launch of the first carbon-zero cleanroom laundry campus. A key part of the reduction came from switching its transport fleet to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), which can lower vehicle emissions by up to 90%.

The 31% figure is a decent start, but I wonder about the energy source for the carbon-zero campus. Is it on-site renewables or just REGO certificates? The power demand for industrial laundry is massive.
The reporting here is a bit light on the accounting standard used. It is one thing to call a campus carbon-zero, but without knowing if they are counting Scope 3 emissions, the number is hard to verify.
HVO is a quick win for fleets, but the real challenge is the thermal energy for the laundry process. If they actually solved the industrial heating part of the campus, that is the real story.
