Mercy Health has finished one of Australia's largest aged care solar programs, installing rooftop solar across 24 residential aged care homes nationwide. The multi-year project added 2728 panels in its final phase, generating 1.364 MW of capacity. Total output is expected to reach 1802 MWh of renewable electricity each year, cutting carbon emissions by about 1335 tonnes annually, equivalent to removing over 290 cars from the road. The initiative is part of Mercy Health's Caring for People and Planet Strategy 2026-2028. The organization says older Australians are especially vulnerable to extreme heat and severe weather driven by climate change. By reducing grid reliance, the program aims to strengthen service resilience while lowering operating costs. Future developments like Mercy Place Edgewater in WA and the Rosebud Precinct in Victoria will also include solar technology.
