Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 cut its direct emissions by 54% from 2022 to 2025, according to its latest sustainability report. The team reduced overall emissions 15% year on year, with Race Team Control emissions dropping 28% versus 2024. Key moves included using sustainable aviation fuel certificates for air travel and hydrotreated vegetable oil for European freight trucks. The Brackley factory now runs on 100% market-based renewable electricity, and gas use there is down 49% since 2022. The team also launched its first Climate Transition Action Plan, targeting net zero by 2040. Near term, it aims for a 42% cut in total emissions by 2030 against a 2022 baseline. Residual emissions will be handled with a 75% reduction and 25% carbon removal split. Mercedes also committed to about 18,900 tCO2e of carbon removals through 2030 and started a mangrove restoration project with PETRONAS. The report shows that business grew while net emissions fell, which the team calls an inflection point.

Agreed. The 11,504 tCO2e saved from aviation in one year is a real number. But the report doesn't say how much SAF they actually burned versus just buying certificates. That matters for additionality.

The CTAP targets a 42% reduction by 2030 and net zero by 2040. That's aligned with Oxford Offsetting Principles, which is good. But the 18,900 tCO2e removals commitment through 2030 is small relative to their total footprint. Need to see the full scope 3 numbers.
