Mercedes-AMG is launching the electric GT Berlina on May 19. Built on the new AMG.EA platform, the four-seat saloon targets high performance with up to 1,360 hp and a WLTP range of 630 km. The vehicle features a low drag coefficient of 0.198 and supports ultra-fast charging, capable of going from 10 to 80 percent in 15 minutes using a 400 kW charger. This architecture will also underpin a future electric AMG SUV arriving in 2027.

A 400 kW charger is a tall order for current infrastructure. Most high speed hubs are still capping out way below that. I wonder how many people will actually see those 15 minute charge times in the real world.
Exactly. The hardware is moving faster than the grid permits. Until we see a massive rollout of ultra-fast charging stations backed by utility scale storage, these specs are mostly theoretical for the average buyer.
Interesting to see the shift to a dedicated EV platform like AMG.EA instead of just swapping engines in old frames. It is the only way to actually hit those drag and range numbers.
True, but 1,360 hp in a luxury saloon seems like overkill for sustainability. The battery size needed for that kind of output usually means a much higher carbon footprint during manufacturing.
