Meralco unit MSpectrum forms joint venture with Tokyo Century and JFE Engineering for solar expansion in Philippines

The new company will develop rooftop and ground-mounted solar projects for commercial and industrial customers, with a focus on Japanese firms operating in the Philippines. MSpectrum holds a 60% stake, Tokyo Century 30%, and JFE Engineering 10%. The venture builds on a previous collaboration under Japan's Joint Crediting Mechanism program from 2018. JFE Engineering, which has built over 100 megawatts of solar PPA projects in Japan, will handle engineering and design. The partnership aims to help businesses cut power costs and reduce carbon emissions amid rising electricity demand in the Philippines. Meralco chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said the deal will enable more scalable solar solutions for commercial and industrial customers. The joint venture targets Japanese enterprises facing pressure to adopt renewable energy and meet carbon neutrality goals.
