Maybank and IIF call for more capital to fund Asean low-carbon transition at Sustainable Finance Forum
klsescreener.comMaybank and the Institute of International Finance (IIF) used their fourth annual Sustainable Finance Forum in Kuala Lumpur to push for more regional cooperation on funding Asean's shift to a low-carbon economy. The event gathered 160 policymakers, regulators, banks, investors, and corporate leaders to talk about turning sustainability pledges into bankable projects. The forum named five areas where capital is needed: transition finance, energy, climate resilience, carbon markets, and blue finance. Maybank's group chief sustainability officer said closer cooperation across the financing ecosystem is required to move capital at the scale the region needs. No new funding targets or mechanisms were announced, so the near-term test is whether the discussion produces actual project finance deals.
