MAX Power expands natural hydrogen exploration across southern Saskatchewan with Bracken well test

The company is testing whether the same geological system that produced hydrogen concentrations up to 28.6% at Lawson extends across a much wider area. Bracken was drilled to 2,600 meters and showed signs of hydrogen and helium during drilling, with a full testing program planned for July. Natural hydrogen, sometimes called white hydrogen, occurs underground in pure form and requires no manufacturing. It has been largely overlooked until recent discoveries in Mali and France showed it can be trapped geologically. MAX Power now holds about 1.3 million acres of permitted land along the Genesis Trend in southern Saskatchewan. The company plans concurrent testing at both Lawson and Bracken starting in July to assess commercial viability. If the tests confirm that natural hydrogen can be produced at scale, it could offer a low-carbon energy source without the need for electrolysis or carbon capture. The results will help determine whether Saskatchewan hosts a globally significant natural hydrogen basin.
