Mati Carbon has become the first company to issue carbon removal credits under Isometric's updated V1.2 enhanced rock weathering (ERW) protocol. The company delivered 492.4 tonnes of CO2 removal credits from its Seoni and North Chhattisgarh projects in India. The credits are listed on the Isometric registry and represent a milestone for durable carbon removal using volcanic rock dust on farmland. The company focuses on deploying ERW in the Global South, helping farmers restore depleted soils while permanently removing CO2. Mati also released a free app that lets users stress-test ERW data using the TiCAT method for solid-phase monitoring. The move aims to increase transparency and help the broader CDR community evaluate weathering rates from field data. Mati Carbon won the XPRIZE Carbon Removal grand prize in 2025 and has since improved its MRV datasets and analytical workflows. The company says sharing its methods publicly helps the sector move faster toward defensible carbon claims. The V1.2 protocol is considered one of the most rigorous for enhanced weathering credits.

492 tonnes is a pilot scale number. Question is how fast they can scale and maintain the same MRV quality. Soil sampling at scale gets expensive fast.

Mati also released a free app for stress-testing ERW data. That is more interesting to me than the credit count. Transparency on MRV matters more than volume at this stage.

Volcanic rock dust on farmland in India. Low tech, local material, and it helps soil fertility. That is a better story than most high tech CDR projects. Hope the economics hold up at scale.
