Masdar and its partners Citaglobal and TIZA Global have started construction on the 200MW Chereh Dam floating solar plant in Pahang, Malaysia. The project reached financial close on 27 October with about MYR 580 million in debt from three international lenders. It will sell power to national utility Tenaga Nasional under a 21-year PPA signed in December 2025. Developed through Malaysia's LSS Cycle 5+ tender, Chereh won the lowest floating solar tariff. The plant is expected to power around 100,000 homes and create about 1,500 jobs during construction. It is Masdar's first project in Malaysia and the first under the 10GW roadmap agreed with MIDA in 2023. Operations are targeted for 2028. Masdar is also studying a larger floating solar project at the Murum reservoir in Sarawak, so Chereh will serve as a reference case for that effort.
