Maruti Suzuki Pilots 300 kW Green Hydrogen Electrolyzer at Manesar for Low-Carbon Manufacturing
indianweb2.comMaruti Suzuki has commissioned a 300 kW green hydrogen electrolyzer at its Manesar facility in India. The hydrogen is blended with natural gas and used as process fuel in manufacturing operations. The system runs on solar power generated during holidays that would otherwise go unused, storing hydrogen for later consumption. The pilot is part of a broader push to cut carbon emissions in manufacturing, with a target of reducing from 615,000 tonnes to 266,000 tonnes by FY 2030-31. The company is also scaling up biogas, battery storage, and renewable power purchase agreements across its plants. The pilot aligns with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission and will inform plans to expand green hydrogen use to other facilities in Haryana and Gujarat. Other automakers like Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, and Hero Future Energies are pursuing similar hydrogen and biogas projects, but Maruti's focus on using idle solar power for electrolysis is a practical step toward integrating intermittent renewables into industrial processes.
