Maruti Suzuki has commissioned a 300 kW green hydrogen electrolyzer at its Manesar facility in Haryana. The pilot project uses renewable energy, especially excess solar power, to produce hydrogen that is blended with natural gas for process fuel. This is part of the company's strategy to reduce carbon emissions from manufacturing and aligns with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission. The company targets cutting manufacturing emissions from 615,000 tonnes to 266,000 tonnes by FY31 using multiple clean energy technologies including solar, biogas, and battery storage. The project also serves as a learning platform for broader hydrogen deployment across its plants in Haryana and Gujarat. While the scale is small, the move highlights how automakers are testing hydrogen for industrial heat and process use, not just vehicles. It remains to be seen if the economics work at larger scale.
