Maruti Suzuki India Limited has commissioned a 1 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at its Kharkhoda manufacturing facility in Haryana. The system stores surplus electricity from the plant's 20 MWp solar project, which was commissioned in 2025. Previously, solar power generated during holidays or low production periods went underutilised. Now, that energy can be stored and used when needed, cutting reliance on grid electricity and reducing waste. The BESS has an estimated 15-year operational life and is expected to cut around 54 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. The project is part of Maruti Suzuki's broader strategy to build a more self-reliant energy ecosystem across its manufacturing operations. Battery storage is becoming a critical tool for Indian manufacturers looking to improve energy efficiency, reduce costs, and support the country's clean energy goals.
