Maruti Suzuki Commissions 300 kW Green Hydrogen Plant at Manesar: Industrial Decarbonisation Pilot
urbanacres.inMaruti Suzuki has commissioned a 300 kW green hydrogen plant at its Manesar manufacturing facility in Haryana. The pilot uses surplus solar power generated on site, including electricity produced on holidays, to make hydrogen that can be stored and used later in factory operations. It is part of a broader energy transition programme that includes solar procurement, wind power purchase agreements, biogas, compressed biogas, and a 1 MWh battery storage system. Maruti aims to cut the carbon footprint of its manufacturing operations from 615,000 tonnes to 266,000 tonnes by FY 2030-31. The company plans to use learnings from the Manesar pilot to scale green hydrogen at its facilities in Haryana and Gujarat. The announcement does not yet include expected hydrogen output, project-level emissions reductions, or a timeline for expansion. Those operational details will determine whether the pilot becomes a workable template for industrial decarbonisation in India.
