Maruti Suzuki has switched on a 300 kW green hydrogen electrolyzer at its Manesar plant in India. The pilot uses solar power generated during holidays to produce hydrogen, which is stored and later blended with natural gas as process fuel in manufacturing. This approach captures surplus solar energy that would otherwise go unused, improving the plant's renewable energy utilization. The company plans to scale up green hydrogen based on pilot results, and is also advancing biogas and battery storage projects. It targets cutting manufacturing carbon emissions from 615,000 tonnes to 266,000 tonnes by FY 2030-31. The move aligns with India's Green Hydrogen Mission and reflects a broader push to decarbonize industrial heat and processes.
