Maruti Suzuki India's CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said flex fuel vehicles can help India reduce its dependence on imported crude oil and lower carbon emissions. He spoke at the launch of the company's first flex fuel car, the Wagon R Flex fuel. Takeuchi emphasized that large scale adoption requires building an entire ecosystem including fuel availability, more vehicle models, customer awareness, and competitive pricing. Takeuchi noted flex fuel benefits extend beyond autos to farmers, ethanol producers, and rural communities. Maruti Suzuki is pursuing a multi pathway strategy including EVs, hybrids, CNG, and compressed biogas. The company has announced nine CBG plants with two already operational. Flex fuel vehicles run on a blend of petrol and ethanol or methanol, offering a cleaner alternative that leverages India's agricultural strengths.
