The Marpole Community Centre in Vancouver serves as a pilot for the city's embodied carbon guidelines. By utilizing glulam columns, beams, and cross-laminated timber (CLT) floors, the project achieved a 41% reduction in embodied carbon compared to traditional construction methods. Beyond material selection, the facility targets Passive House and LEED Gold certifications. This combination of low-carbon structural materials and high-performance envelope design aims to minimize both the initial carbon footprint and long-term operational energy use.
