Marley launches Edgemere 2.0: UK's first roof tile with carbon-capture cement technology

Marley has introduced Edgemere 2.0, the first UK concrete roof tile that uses carbon-capture cement technology. The tile relies on Heidelberg Materials' evoZero cement, where CO2 from production is captured at a facility in Norway and permanently stored under the seabed. The carbon reduction is tracked through a public Carbon Bank, and each order comes with an Environmental Attribute Certificate for full traceability. This gives builders and specifiers verifiable product-level carbon evidence without changing existing roof designs. Edgemere 2.0 has a global warming potential of just 1.86 kg CO2e per square meter from cradle to gate. It retains the same dimensions and performance as the standard Edgemere tile, so it can be used as a direct replacement in projects that need lower embodied carbon. The launch targets the growing demand from public sector and housing projects for documented carbon data in building materials. The approach also highlights a practical model for carbon capture in construction. Rather than shipping captured CO2 across borders, the reductions from Norwegian capture are attributed to locally sourced UK cement via the Carbon Bank. This avoids extra transport emissions while still delivering verified carbon savings. For architects and quantity surveyors, the key takeaway is that low-carbon roofing is now available with standard specs and auditable documentation.
