Carbon capture startup Mantel has partnered with engineering firm Wood to deploy a high temperature capture system using molten borate salts. Unlike traditional methods that cool flue gas, this system operates at 600 degrees Celsius, recovering heat to produce steam and electricity. The partnership targets heavy industry and oil sands, starting with a project in Western Canada. By integrating capture directly into the heat source, Mantel aims to reduce capture costs to between 30 and 50 dollars per tonne of CO2.
