Carbon capture startup Mantel has partnered with engineering firm Wood to deploy high-temperature capture technology. The collaboration focuses on integrating carbon capture directly into industrial equipment like boilers and gas turbines to avoid the costs associated with cooling and reheating flue gas. The first commercial project is underway at a steam-assisted gravity drainage facility in Western Canada. This installation aims to capture 60,000 metric tons of CO2 annually while maintaining the high-pressure steam production necessary for operations.
