Engineering firm Wood and startup Mantel are partnering to implement a molten salt carbon capture system at a steam assisted gravity drainage facility in western Canada. The project aims to scrub 60,000 metric tons of CO2 annually by integrating capture technology directly into high temperature industrial heat sources. This approach targets emissions from boilers, kilns, and furnaces, which are traditionally difficult to decarbonize. By using a supercritical CO2 cycle with molten salt borates, the technology seeks to reduce the complexity of industrial carbon capture at scale.
