Malaysia is preparing for a new growth cycle in renewable energy, driven by the upcoming Large Scale Solar 6 (LSS6) program and the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS). While solar module prices have softened due to global inventory levels, the government is focusing on 2GW of new capacity with a heavy emphasis on floating solar and battery storage to stabilize the grid. On the policy front, Malaysia has launched its National Carbon Market Policy and is developing a Climate Change Bill. While some carbon taxes for heavy industry were temporarily postponed, the framework for an emissions trading system and a carbon registry is moving forward, with initial pricing projected at MYR 15 per ton of CO2 equivalent.
