Malaysia is moving to make its Net Zero 2050 target a legal requirement through the National Climate Change Bill, known as RUUPIN. This legislation shifts decarbonization from a voluntary goal to a statutory obligation for both public and private sectors. The bill introduces a framework for a domestic Emissions Trading Scheme and carbon pricing. It also establishes formal standards for Measurement, Reporting, and Verification to ensure Malaysian carbon credits are bankable and meet international benchmarks.
