Malaysia's National Climate Change Bill to make carbon accounting mandatory, says minister
malaymail.comMalaysia's proposed National Climate Change Bill will make carbon accounting mandatory and set clear governance rules, according to Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Arthur Joseph Kurup. Speaking at IGEM 2026, he said the law, together with the National Climate Change Policy 2.0, would align with the National Energy Transition Roadmap and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030. The aim is to give businesses legal certainty for decarbonisation and to attract clean technology investment. The government also points to the National Carbon Market Policy launched in April, which sets MRV standards aligned with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement for voluntary and compliance carbon markets. Financing support includes the Green Technology Financing Scheme 5.0, with government guarantees, and the Green Investment Tax Allowance. The MGTC is expanding the MyHIJAU Mark to verify green products and services. The article reports IGEM has generated over RM86 billion in business leads since its inception, though leads are not the same as delivered projects.
