Malaysia JKR green projects cut carbon emissions 44% with 199 rated buildings and roads

Malaysia's Public Works Department (JKR) reported a 44% reduction in carbon emissions from 199 projects that underwent its Green Rating Assessment (pH) as of last year. The cuts equal 1.53 million kg of CO2 equivalent annually. The Works Minister announced 46 building projects and 44 road projects adopted the Green Product Scoring System to push for environmentally friendly materials. Fifty-two projects have earned JKR's sustainable development rating so far, mostly roads. The ministry also launched a new Sustainable Development Policy, a green rating standard for buildings (JKR/SIRIM 2:2025), and the JKR e-pH digital system to streamline green assessments. The minister said sustainability must guide planning, design, construction, and maintenance of government assets going forward.
