Malaysia's government is evaluating nuclear power, biomass, biogas, and geothermal energy as part of its National Energy Transition Roadmap. The goal is to reduce exposure to external energy shocks and build a more resilient electricity supply. A deputy minister told parliament that any nuclear power plant decision will only come after safety, feasibility, and sustainability assessments are complete. Beyond nuclear, SEDA Malaysia has identified 51.88 MW of potential electricity from palm oil mill biomass in Peninsular Malaysia. Geothermal resources in Ulu Slim, Perak are also being studied, though exploratory drilling is needed to confirm capacity. For now, the government will prioritize proven renewable sources like solar PV, hydropower, biomass, and biogas while continuing to diversify its low-carbon energy mix.
