Malaysia and South Korea partner on biogas development to boost carbon neutrality goals

Malaysia's Bioeconomy Corporation and South Korea's K-eco have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on biogas development. The deal focuses on technical cooperation, policy exchange, and commercializing bioenergy projects that convert organic waste into renewable energy. Malaysia's palm oil sector provides strong biomass potential, while Korea brings experience in waste-to-energy systems. Both countries see this as a practical step toward carbon neutrality. The partnership builds on an earlier RM700 million deal to turn palm oil mill effluent into upgraded biogas. It signals growing cross-border investment in low-carbon energy from agricultural waste streams in Southeast Asia.
