Makati City in the Philippines has switched 11 major government facilities to 100% renewable energy, including City Hall and the University of Makati. The move covers facilities with a combined average monthly peak demand of 5.76 megawatts and achieves over 60% of the city's clean energy target for the year. The power is supplied under a Renewable Energy Supply Contract with ACEN Corp, a local energy company. The city and ACEN also launched a public dashboard that tracks electricity consumption and carbon emissions avoided in real time. The dashboard translates emissions data into equivalent measures like trees needed to offset carbon. Makati was recognized by the Energy Regulatory Commission as the first local government unit in the country to pursue 100% renewable energy under the Retail Competition and Open Access program. Additional facilities are expected to join in the coming months.
