A council in Kent, England is testing a new low-carbon pothole repair material made from recycled clothing. Maidstone Borough Council has filled five potholes in parks using a product from RECOOL that incorporates textile waste, with a specialist surfacing layer on top. The trial aims to tackle the UK's 1.45 million tonnes of annual textile waste while reducing the carbon footprint of road maintenance. The material is being monitored over the coming months to see how it holds up under normal park use and British weather. If successful, the council plans to share results with other authorities. RECOOL says the approach turns mixed textile waste into practical alternatives to traditional plastic products, supporting the circular economy and lowering emissions.
