MAG targets up to 45% cut in emissions intensity by 2035, retires CORSIA units
themalaysianreserve.comMalaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has published a Mid-Term Sustainability Roadmap for 2026-2035, aiming to cut emissions intensity by 40-45% from 2019 levels by 2035. The group already reports a 22% reduction in greenhouse gas intensity and is leaning on fleet renewal, sustainable aviation fuel, ground electrification, and carbon credits to reach the goal. MAG also became the first Malaysian airline group to retire CORSIA-eligible emissions units, with 80,100 units retired for Phase 1 compliance. Separate targets include a 20% cut in building energy intensity by 2030 and 55% landfill waste diversion. The roadmap aligns with Malaysia's national aviation decarbonisation blueprint and the country's energy transition plans. The 2050 net-zero target remains a major challenge, as CEO Nasaruddin Bakar noted, because conventional jet fuel dominates emissions and the whole aviation ecosystem has to move together.
