Macau opens first EV supercharging station, aims for 50% clean electricity by 2026

Macau's first EV supercharging station on Rua da Patinagem in Cotai will begin trial operation after commissioning this month, according to Environmental Protection Bureau Director Ip Kuong Lam. The station is part of a broader push to expand charging infrastructure: fast chargers will increase by 20 percent this year, and e-scooter charging points in public carparks will rise from over 800 to about 1,400, a 45 percent increase. Macau also plans to raise the share of clean energy in purchased electricity to 50 percent this year, with a long-term goal of carbon neutrality in imported electricity by 2050. The government reports that land transportation has already achieved carbon peaking after two and a half years of its 2023 carbon reduction strategy. The DSPA will work with utility CEM to provide real-time charging station availability through an app update.
