Macau has launched its Environment Day program and a public energy saving and carbon reduction campaign ahead of World Environment Day. The initiative is part of a joint effort with Guangdong province and Hong Kong to advance ecological conservation in the Greater Bay Area and support China's carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals. The program includes environmental education in schools, online livestream events, and energy saving actions like lights off for one hour. Macau's Environmental Protection Bureau director Ip Kuong Lam reported that total carbon emissions have stabilized and land transport has already reached its carbon peak. The city aims to achieve an overall carbon peak as early as possible.
