Macao launches Environment Day program with carbon reduction campaign, aims for early carbon peak
chinadaily.com.cnMacao launched its Environment Day program and a public energy saving and carbon reduction campaign on June 6, 2026. The event, co-hosted with Guangdong and Hong Kong, is part of China's broader push for carbon peak and carbon neutrality in the Greater Bay Area. Activities include school education, online events, and a lights off one hour initiative. Ip Kuong Lam, director of Macao's Environmental Protection Bureau, said total carbon emissions have stabilized and land transport has already reached its carbon peak. Macao now aims to achieve an overall carbon peak as early as possible. The campaign also included a donation ceremony from the territory's plastic bag charging scheme.
