chinadailyasia.comMacao launched its program for Environment Day 2026 on June 6, alongside a public energy saving and carbon reduction campaign. The event was held at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex, with officials from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao jointly hosting the national Environment Day and Beautiful China promotion week. The goal is to advance ecological conservation in the Greater Bay Area and support China's carbon peak and neutrality targets. Key initiatives include environmental education in schools, online livestream events, and a lights off one hour energy saving effort. Ip Kuong Lam, director of Macao's Environmental Protection Bureau, reported that total carbon emissions have stabilized and land transport has already reached its carbon peak. The city now aims for an overall carbon peak as soon as possible. A donation ceremony from the plastic bag charging scheme and an award presentation for a children's environmental drawing competition also took place.
