M&S adds electric trucks with integrated inverter to power refrigeration, cutting diesel use in logistics
retailtechinnovationhub.comM&S has deployed ten new DAF XD electric trucks across its Food and Fashion, Home & Beauty logistics operations. Five are already in service, and five more will join this year. One truck features a first-of-its-kind integrated inverter that draws power from the main battery to run the trailer's refrigeration unit, eliminating the need for diesel-powered cooling on chilled journeys. This was developed through the eFREIGHT 2030 project, part of the UK government's Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure programme. The new vehicles add to M&S's existing fleet of eight battery electric HGVs and five battery electric Rigids. The move is part of M&S's Plan A roadmap to reach Net Zero by 2040. The retailer is working with logistics partner Gist and truck manufacturer DAF to trial new technologies and cut carbon emissions from transport. The article also promotes the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards, which will focus on green retail innovation.
