M&S adds 10 electric trucks to logistics fleet, cuts diesel use in food deliveries
retailgazette.co.ukMarks & Spencer is deploying 10 DAF XD electric tractor units across its food and fashion supply chains. Five trucks are already running, and the rest will join later this year. One truck uses an inverter to power the refrigeration unit from the main battery, removing the need for diesel cooling on chilled trailers. This is the first time that system has been used on a DAF truck in the UK. The trucks operate at 32 to 42 tonnes and cover about 250 to 300 miles daily. They join M&S's existing fleet of 13 electric HGVs and rigid trucks. The rollout is part of the eFREIGHT 2030 project, backed by the UK government's Zero Emission HGV program, and supports M&S's goal to reach net zero by 2040. For anyone tracking fleet electrification in retail logistics, this is a concrete example of a major UK grocer moving from pilot to deployment. The integrated electric refrigeration is a notable detail, because that has been a stubborn diesel holdout in food transport.
