Construction has started on a 10.42MWp solar farm at London Luton Airport, expected to generate up to 11.2GWh annually. The project uses land near the runway and will supply power under a long-term PPA, helping the airport cut operational emissions and reduce reliance on grid electricity. The solar installation covers about 106,000 square meters with 14,580 modules. Zestec Renewable Energy and Ikigai Energy are delivering it, with legal advice from Freeths. The airport targets net zero by 2040, and this on-site generation is part of that strategy. The project took over three years to develop due to the regulated airport environment. It avoids upfront capital for the airport, as Zestec installs and operates the system.
