This is a decent retrofit play for existing widebody fleets. A 2 percent fuel cut on an A330ceo is meaningful if it holds up in service. The real test is whether the film survives wing flex and high-altitude UV over the claimed 6 year life.

They say 22 aircraft modified by mid 2025 and 70k tonnes CO2 saved cumulative. That is measurable but still tiny relative to global aviation. Scaling this to hundreds of frames is where the certification bottleneck lives.

The 2 percent target is a development goal, not a certified number. I want to see the actual drag reduction data from wind tunnel and flight test on the wing before treating this as proven. Past retrofit coatings have underdelivered in real ops.

Agreed. The 1.1 percent on 777 is a useful baseline but wing application changes the aerodynamics more than fuselage. Also curious if the film adds any weight penalty that eats into the fuel savings.
