Lufthansa Group has entered a multi-year agreement to purchase carbon removal credits from Deep Sky's Alpha project in Alberta, Canada. The direct air capture facility has a nameplate capacity to remove 3,000 tonnes of CO2 per year and began operations in August 2025. This deal is part of a broader strategy by Lufthansa to increase the share of permanent carbon removal in its climate portfolio. The airline is also partnering with other DAC providers, including Climeworks and 1PointFive, to scale technology-based sequestration.
