Lufthansa Group has updated its sustainability strategy to include technology-based carbon removal solutions. The airline now allocates roughly 20 percent of its climate protection portfolio to projects that permanently remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, including the first use of Direct Air Carbon Capture and Storage (DACCS). These initiatives are split between avoidance projects, such as biogas systems, and removal projects like reforestation and biochar production. The group is partnering with firms including Climeworks and 1PointFive to scale these sequestration technologies.
