Researchers have developed a method to recycle wood-wool cement panel waste by heating it to 450 degrees Celsius. This specific temperature restores the binding capacity of the cement without hitting the decarbonation threshold, meaning it avoids releasing stored carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere. The resulting reactivated binder was used to create low-density biocomposites with significantly lower global warming potential than standard CEM II cement. This process offers a circular economy pathway for industrial residues, reducing the need for raw material extraction and lowering the overall carbon footprint of construction materials.
