Low Carbon has started developing proposals for Dengie Peninsula Energy Park, a 1GW solar and battery storage project near Bradwell-on-Sea in Essex. The company says the site could generate enough electricity to power over 250,000 UK homes and avoid up to 265,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year. The project would also include grid export infrastructure, environmental mitigation, and biodiversity areas. Because the generating capacity exceeds 100MW, the project will be classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project. Low Carbon plans to submit a Development Consent Order to the Planning Inspectorate, with the final decision made by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. The company expects to run a wider public consultation in early 2027, after initial engagement with local communities and stakeholders.
