Low Carbon has announced plans for the West Oxfordshire Energy Park, a 500 MW solar PV installation combined with battery energy storage and grid connection infrastructure. The site would sit between Langford and Little Faringdon, near Lechlade and Carterton. The company says output would match the annual electricity use of roughly 145,000 UK homes. The project is large enough to be treated as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project, so it needs a Development Consent Order rather than standard local planning permission. Environmental surveys and technical studies are ongoing, and a public consultation is scheduled for early 2027. This is another example of UK solar moving to the 500 MW scale with storage attached from the start. The key questions are grid connection timing, DCO progress, and how the battery will be used to avoid curtailment.
