A new low-carbon pipe prefabrication plant has opened in Adétikopé, Togo, to support the RAINE flood management project in Greater Lomé. The facility, operated by BESSAC and PFO Construction, will produce over 2,200 jacking pipes and process 1,400 tonnes of steel in its first year, using low-carbon concrete manufactured on site. This reduces dependence on imported materials and lowers the environmental footprint of infrastructure construction. The plant is part of Togo's strategy to build industrial capacity while addressing urban flood risks. The RAINE project uses microtunneling technology to build underground stormwater networks with minimal surface disruption. By producing materials locally, the plant aims to accelerate project timelines and create skilled jobs in the region.
